Respect for Yourself and Your Actions
Dear Reader,
Thank you for your time to read my blog that consists of observations and important conclusions that have made a difference in my life and hopefully can help you in some ways as well.
2019 has been perhaps the most transformational year for my personal development. Through many self development techniques presented to me, I was truly able to develop further as a person and level up in many aspects of my life. I found the following methods to be important:
- Journaling
- Meditation
- Coaching
- Working out
- Gratitude
- Giving back
- Reading self development books (or books that can help you to understand yourself and aspects of your life)
Perhaps the most important lesson for me this year is to have confidence in myself through respecting myself. Three years of boarding school have taught me how to respect different points of views, my family teaches me to respect everyone, but somehow in the midst of it all, I forgot how to respect my own needs.
I am not going to use a deep philosophical example to analyze, but instead I will use a simple, more transparent one. In the movie Bridesmaids, the main protagonist Annie punishes herself for her old mistakes as she deliberately sabotages herself in pretty much all endeavors of her life. While watching the movie, the pattern of her disrespect towards herself emerges as she punishes herself for her past. This is a powerful lesson to consider. On a smaller scale, I too have been disrespecting myself for the previous mistakes I have made in my relationships as a teenager. Using all the constructive feedback, I am able to identify that in order to truly level up, the foundation of it all starts with respect for yourself. I have allowed two years of being in the work in progress mode, a state which helped me to become aware and conscious, and now I am proud to share that I am only operating as the best version of myself. Ultimately, everything that you do will eventually goes back to you, and therefore I choose kindness and respect for myself to be solid values, which dominate and define my overall personality.
Today, on the verge of my upcoming birthday and transitioning into 2020, I chose to respect myself by letting go of the past, knowing my worth in all aspects (personal, professional and academic), and by respecting others, of course.
Love,
Akbota
