Motivation to be an Entrepreneur
Motivation to be an Entrepreneur
Why do you want to be an entrepreneur and what motivates you? Provide some reasons - make money (the billionaires), be your own boss, create social impact, change the world, family background, curiosity - given all the startup companies in the news etc.
My motivation to be an entrepreneur is that I feel that being an entrepreneur is my essence. Since my childhood, I have been entrepreneurial by being curious, wanting to add value to the world and of course achieving financial independence and freedom. I am naturally a people-person and I love finding new ways to think about a subject as well as new solutions to create and add value. I am community-oriented and I value building and maintaining relationships with others which naturally complements my ability to sell a product as well as apply creativity.
What motivates me is my desire to add substantial value and make myself proud of my accomplishments, as well as help and give back to my family and friends. I also used to have a social anxiety and building a community and making other people feel seen are concepts that are appealing to me. For me being an entrepreneur is like breathing air because I like helping people, I like talking to people and learning from them, I am intellectually fascinated by different cultures and building my own confidence by talking to others and building brands I love. I have joined over hundred clubs in my time in Boston, and I love to see the reactions and the long-term effects on the people I helped and the people who helped me through business ventures, referrals and motivation. Helping other people to become a better, or a woman to achieve self-confidence (whether it is a stranger or my best friend) is inspiring to me and drives my passion and willingness to help create profound ways of elevating others. An aspect of entrepreneurship that I find rewarding is connecting other people as well, for example I am a big fan of Bumble’s CEO Whitney Wolfe Herd and Hinge’s Justin McLeod. I think that their apps enable people looking to connect whether platonically or romantically is an aspect I love. I find that having connections, meaningful and healthy ones is a staple for shaping one’s quality of life and that building human capital is essential. Another layer of my work is that I also love designing and building apps to enable profound connections between people. The concept of creating a social impact speaks volumes to me because I believe everyone is worthy of healthy connections, and our social connections with others can help us become better people.
Another factor that motivates me is that being an entrepreneur fits my strengths and weaknesses analysis. Growing up, I always valued entrepreneurship because of my learning style and I always saw problem-solving in a very people-oriented way. I immigrated to the United States since I was a kid and always treasured every opportunity and every connection I make. Learning English from scratch, I quickly learned different accents and how to make jokes and compliments and was leading with my communication as my strength. Due to my learning style of test avoidance, I quickly knew that entrepreneurship is my style of living, making friends, getting leadership roles and I embraced it by finding opportunities quickly and developing resilience. Being a team captain or raising money for charities or a finance club were the activities I preferred over taking tests and thus I realized that my ability to listen to other people and understand business is helpful than beating myself up for having test anxiety. I made peace with my test avoidance and quickly focused on the fact that I am a passionate entrepreneur with a friendly personality. Another factor of my personality is that I am fascinated by the intellectual challenge, depth, and people-oriented style of thinking that is required to succeed in entrepreneurship. While taking risks scared some people, I was always eager to take calculated risks because that was my way of learning and gaining experience. Looking at other immigrants who are dominating the tech and real estate fields as entrepreneurs have been really encouraging to me. For example, a myriad of the successful start-ups have presence of immigrants in leadership and key positions and are constantly on the news for their big ventures adding enormous values. Studying the stories of each person, I have been deeply inspired and use my American and international outlook to trailblaze a successful venture.
Financial stability is obviously a big factor in my decision of being an entrepreneur. I have been blessed with an opportunity to have studied finance in a university in Boston. Studying finance encouraged me to pursue entrepreneurship in every class, from the personality quizzes I took to the conversations I have had with my incredible professors. During my degree, I was working three jobs, and on some days during my college years that developed stamina in me to give back to others when I can as well as to earn money. After graduating college last year, I learned that in hindsight entrepreneurship was my way of making a living. Looking back, those lessons made me a stronger person and solidified my drive to secure financial freedom and stability. I was never bitter or upset at those circumstances of working several jobs in college because I knew I could change them and instead the whole experience made me motivated and determined to learn and succeed in business.
Currently, I am an entrepreneur specifically in real estate and technology. I feel that I have found peace since I chose to be in business and entrepreneurship. Of course, there are challenges, for instance, an insatiable drive, superb communication skills, a relentless work ethic, and honest accountability are ingredients to success in this fast-paced business. Over the years, I have learned to capitalize on my strengths while accepting myself the way I am and using my traits of creativity and resourcefulness as ways to create beautiful things.
